"Entrepreneurship" is the process of creating something new with value by devoting the necessary time and effort, assuming the accompanying financial, psychic, and social risks, and receiving the resulting rewards of monetary and personal satisfaction and independence.
Providing basic business development knowledge and necessary skills training to the youth and women to enable them to start and sustain their own businesses.
Objective
About the program
A comprehensive 8 week training program targeting the youth and women.
Participants are trained to make business plans which they can use to receive funding from investors and financial institutions that are willing to partner them in their endeavor.
Topics covered
The program aims to provide a holistic outline of skills that are required in running a successful business. Local successful businessmen and alumni of our Kibera Youth Incubation Program are invited as guest speakers.
Courses included in the training program are making of business plan, basics of financial management, operations management, marketing management, logistics and human resource.
- Making of Business Plan: executive summary, break even analysis, site analysis, etc.
- Financial Management includes basics of record keeping, accounting and break even analysis.
- Operations Management is inclusive of tools and techniques of taking strategic and operations decisions, job scheduling and quality control.
- Marketing Management comprises of basic knowledge in market segmentation, branding, promotion and advertising.
- Logistics Management enables the participants to learn how to deploy an effective and cost efficient transport system and help them build an efficient and responsive supply chain.
- Human Resource Management contains basics of recruitment, team building, etc.
2013
Ann, one of our graduate entrepreneurs, started her tailoring business in 2013 after receiving a business grant from the American Embassy in Nairobi. She has expanded her business and relocated to a bigger business premises within Nairobi
Our Partner
In 2012, thirteen youth completed the AHCP entrepreneurship training and received a certificate, as well as a grant from the American Embassy in Nairobi, to create and improve their businesses.
